DIY Bug Trapper

DIY BUG TRAPPER

OK, I hate bugs. They are disgusting and I want them gone! So I figured out how to trap flying bugs. With it being summer and the kids are in and out of the house, the flies and gnats are abundant. So here is my tutorial on a Bug trapper using nothing more than an empty two litter, sugar, vinegar and water. Scissors and tape should be included in that but they are secondary.
First, take an exacto knife and cut the top of the bottle about three inches below the spout.

Then measure 1/2 cup of vinegar. You can use just about any vinegar, I used white because that's what I had in the house, but to be honest, apple cider works sooooo much better.

Then measure 1/2 cup of sugar (regular sugar) and pour it in.

Shake it up.

Add enough water to fill it close to half full. Then take the top
that you cut off and flip it upside down in the bottle, like so....

Then using tape, seal the bottle top to the bottle, so nothing can escape. Even the tiniest hole in the seal can allow bugs out.

Not exactly pretty, but it works. Put it in an area that the bugs seem to collect around, I put it near the trash can. The bugs will be attracted to the liquid, go in the hole, but will not be smart enough to get out!
NO MORE BUGS!!

Hope you like this short tutorial. These have been a lifesaver during the summers of kid in and out of the house and leaving doors open. Please let me know if you try this at home and please share, pin, tweet!!!

Mom's 60 Birthday party: Luau Style

So, my mother recently turned 60. I can only pray that I got some of the good genes in the family and look like here when I am 60. My sister put it on at her house, which is perfect because she has a pool. Now,  mind you, I took all four of the kids, BY MYSELF, on a road trip to Houston for this. It was a very hectic day but how many times does someone have a 60th birthday. I was not going to miss it. Unfortunately, I did not have backup as Fred has to work on Saturdays. I am sure you are thinking, OMG, who works on Saturdays. My husband works for Palm Harbor Homes as a salesman. Saturday is their BIG day for sales. He doesn't miss Saturdays. So, I will take the kids to Houston for Grandma! Luckily, it went really well. We left about 11 or so, meaning I had a very quiet ride to Houston. The Baby (Nevin) went to sleep as soon as we left the driveway. Thanks to a beautiful Christmas present from the in-laws, the kids watched a movie on the way. I like it when no one is screaming.

So we get there and Suzanne is setting up the table.Mom is the one on the right by the way!

The grass skirt was a nice touch!
Meanwhile, back at the asylum, my children are running a muck!! But they are cute, aren't they??

So what my sis made is Dr. Pepper Pulled Pork, that of course, she found on pinterest. Here is the pin! It was delicious, put it on Hawaiian Bread and top it off with Pineapple Cole slaw!!

And here she had the cutest pineapple cream cheese spread with veggies and crackers but it looked like a pineapple. I didn't get a really good picture of it but here is the picture from the website from pinterest that she found.

Super Cute and Tasty!!

Of course we had leis everywhere. Nevin kept wrapping her self up in them, and stealing them so she could destroy them. Suzanne is going to be finding flower petals all over her house for weeks!

After we ate, and waited for 30 minutes (Elena went around the party reminding everyone that we have to wait 30 minutes after eating to go swimming or we will get a cramp! Thank you for the public service announcement, Elena!), We Swam!!

Finally, we had all had enough fun, or at least I had,  the kids had begun the ever popular whining and crying about everything. Which at that point you look around and say "Its been a lovely evening, and we are going to leave now." My family is used to this tactic by now. There comes a point in an outing where my kids have had enough and despite the "I don't want to leave" battle cry,  its time to jump ship and hope everyone makes it. So I decided, I needed to go. We had a great time, wish I had taken more pictures, but sometimes its best to put the camera down and enjoy the festivities.

The drive home was uneventful. I like uneventful!

And the whiniest (is that a word?) child of them all, Kiera, fell asleep three minutes into the ride home with mouth gaping, catching flies!!

Ahh, memories!

Etsy Treasury Day: Colors

Lately, when I go into my closet, I am very unhappy. I think I went through a dark period for a good while and ALL my clothes are either black or neutral or just dark. I think I was hiding from the world in my own way. Now, I hate my wardrobe. Luckily, I know how to accessorize.

In the words of Clairee Belcher (Steel Magnolia's people, look it up) :

The only thing that separates us from the animals is our ability to accessorize.
So, in my wishing I had more color I found tons of great stuff on etsy, as I usually do, to symbolize my hatred for black, and grey.  Here are a few beautiful, colorful, and handmade items from etsy. Family, if your reading this, my birthday is coming soon!!!!

My thought process behind what I wear has been changing lately. I used to wear alot of black (I think I was going through a phase) Now, I look in my closet and wish I had more color, so I give you my colors treasury list.

Friday Music of the Week!

This week I have been mainly listening to one band. New Medicine. I recently saw them play with Chevelle and Dead Sara. Talk about a phenomenal show. I think that was by far my favorite show ever, and I have seen Metallica and Aerosmith. They rocked out and put on a great show. I even got their autograph after they played. The guys were actually outside selling their cds. I love this. They were sweet enough to let me take their picture. I would have gotten in the picture too, but they were on the other side of a fence and it made it kind of difficult. I will definitely go see them again. So without further ado, I give you a rocking song for this weeks Music!!
