ABC's of life

I first saw this on my friend Holli's page, who stole it from Insanity rule's blog. Love the idea, so, yes, I stole it!

A} Age:  33

B} Bed Size: King, My husband is one big, heated teddy bear, and we both need our space, I HAVE to have my body pillow or I don't sleep.

C} Chore you dislike: All of them?? But mostly I HATE cleaning the kitchen. With 6 people in my household there are a lot of dishes. Can you say 2 loads a day? I thought you could!

D} Dogs:  Technically, we have a rat terrier named "angel" but she lives with my in-laws, can't have pets in my rental. But I have four kids, that's enough animals for me.

E} Essential start to your day: COFFEE, COFFEE, COFFEE

F} Favorite Colors: Black, maybe turquoise, maybe scarlet red, it changes weekly.

G} Gold or Silver: Silver, Always

H} Height: 5'9"

I} Instruments you play (past/present): Piano, I played for like 14 years. All through public school, and two years in college, I "thought" I wanted to be a Choral Director, Silly me...

J} Job Title: Administrative Secretary for the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (sounds way more impressive than it is)

K} Kids: four, Elena, Kiera, Gabriel and Nevin.

I never tire of this picture

L} Live: The great state of Texas!

M} Mom’s name: Neena

N} Nicknames: Les, Mom, Babe....

O} Overnight hospital stays: When I had my babies...

P} Pet Peeves: Slow drivers that don't know the right lane is for "passing". Same thing goes for people who see someone trying to politely go around them in the grocery store with four kids in tow and THEY DON'T MOVE!!!

Q} Quote from a Movie:  I would be considered a sick person probably in my past life but I will always love "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas." Hunter Thompson was an amazing writer so my quote is "There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die."

R} Righty or Lefty: Right

S} Siblings: Two, Older Brother, Younger Sister

T} Time you wake up: I get up at 5 to exercise every morning. It is the only peace and quiet I get all day!

U} URL favorite these days: Facebook, Blogger, TMZ (yes, I am guilty of this one indulgence!)

V} Vegetables you don’t like: Collard greens, there aren't many.

W} What makes you run late: Did I mention I had four kids under 8.

X} X-Rays: Had my shoulder x-ray'd in college when I was trying to show off and do something stupid (isn't thats what college is for?) Bad idea. My now husband, he wasn't at the time, made me go to the hospital, if I remember correctly, its kind of fuzzy. Also, wouldn't let me drive home for the weekend, he drove me, and some one followed to take him back. Hadn't thought of that till now. He was sweet to me even before we dated...

Y} Yesterday memory: My son (who has speaking issues) came up to me and without any prodding, said "I love you, mommy!"

Z} Zoo Animal Favorite: Monkey's, not that I don't have four at home already

Friday's Music of the week: Dead Sara

I am a rocker chic through and through. Girl Rockers rank right up there. And this girl rocker is completely insane. I saw Dead Sara at a concert at Harry's in College Station. They were playing with Chevelle and New Medicine. She put these guys in their place. Don't get me wrong, NO ONE rocks like Chevelle, but she ripped it up. She was jumping off of speakers, screaming (singing) as loud as she could with the songs and it was amazing. I want to be her when I grow up!!! The lead singer is Emily Armstrong, and the guitarist is Siouxsie Medley, two girls that will forever be in my books as Kick Ass!! Here is one of their latest videos and my favorite song from them.

DIY Magnetic Makeup Organizer

I decided it was time to clean up my makeup. I am not much of a girlie girl, but I have to wear makeup. Getting older, have imperfection, got to cover them. But my makeup usually is just a mess and a hodgepodge of junk. Probably not the best way to store my makeup. I went from this...

To this!

Now mind you, I didn't attach magnets to the brushes and a few others, but that is in a container neatly on my vanity. I will figure out what to do with that later.

Anyway, You will need a cookie sheet (Dollar store), magnets (Dollar Store), Mod podge, Glitter, scrapbook paper (or you can do what I did and print out a great pattern off the internet!), sponge brushes, and scissors, and ribbon (not pictured)

and of course, a hot glue gun. No project is complete, till you have burned off any remnants of your finger prints with hot glue!
This is my trusty, very old, very worn hot glue gun that I, sort of, stole from my mom. She will probably see this and go, I was wondering where this went!! Hi MOM!!!

So, I had multiple sheets of paper to cover this, as the cookie sheet is bigger than your standard 8.5 x 11 paper. Using my exacto knife and scissors, I sized the paper, in the tray, and cut it to fit.

This is the part where the kids get involved. My girls love helping me do projects, especially when glitter is involved. So Mod Podge is harmless, so they helped me spread it onto the cutting board.

Then I placed the paper on top, making sure it didn't have air bubbles.

Then I added glitter to the Mod Podge.

And applied to the entire thing, even the lip that is outside the paper. Yes, it was a big mess but was it worth it, YES!!

So once its all covered and glitterized, let it dry for about 30 minutes. You can be working on the other side of the project and it should be done by then.

Next, Get your glue gun ready and your makeup. Using the magnets from the dollar store. Hot glue them to the back of the compacts. Oh, and I had to learn the hard way that you need to pay attention to which side of the magnets neet to be attached to the makeup. I had a few that I had to redo because the magnets wouldn't work on one side.

Once the tray is dry, flip it over and measure the ribbon so that it goes from the bottom all the way to the top with lots of extra so you can tie the two pieces together and make a bow. I did the ribbon all the way up the tray with hot glue to make sure it had plenty to hold onto and would be sturdy enough to hold up the weight.

Then, tie a bow at the top and hang. Once hung, add your makeup!

Voila! Makeup Organized! Nailed it!

Hope you like the tutorial. It looks great in my bathroom and my hubby is just glad there is not makeup all over the sink in the bathroom!

you are talking too much

Mom's 60 Birthday party: Luau Style

So, my mother recently turned 60. I can only pray that I got some of the good genes in the family and look like here when I am 60. My sister put it on at her house, which is perfect because she has a pool. Now,  mind you, I took all four of the kids, BY MYSELF, on a road trip to Houston for this. It was a very hectic day but how many times does someone have a 60th birthday. I was not going to miss it. Unfortunately, I did not have backup as Fred has to work on Saturdays. I am sure you are thinking, OMG, who works on Saturdays. My husband works for Palm Harbor Homes as a salesman. Saturday is their BIG day for sales. He doesn't miss Saturdays. So, I will take the kids to Houston for Grandma! Luckily, it went really well. We left about 11 or so, meaning I had a very quiet ride to Houston. The Baby (Nevin) went to sleep as soon as we left the driveway. Thanks to a beautiful Christmas present from the in-laws, the kids watched a movie on the way. I like it when no one is screaming.

So we get there and Suzanne is setting up the table.Mom is the one on the right by the way!

The grass skirt was a nice touch!
Meanwhile, back at the asylum, my children are running a muck!! But they are cute, aren't they??

So what my sis made is Dr. Pepper Pulled Pork, that of course, she found on pinterest. Here is the pin! It was delicious, put it on Hawaiian Bread and top it off with Pineapple Cole slaw!!

And here she had the cutest pineapple cream cheese spread with veggies and crackers but it looked like a pineapple. I didn't get a really good picture of it but here is the picture from the website from pinterest that she found.

Super Cute and Tasty!!

Of course we had leis everywhere. Nevin kept wrapping her self up in them, and stealing them so she could destroy them. Suzanne is going to be finding flower petals all over her house for weeks!

After we ate, and waited for 30 minutes (Elena went around the party reminding everyone that we have to wait 30 minutes after eating to go swimming or we will get a cramp! Thank you for the public service announcement, Elena!), We Swam!!

Finally, we had all had enough fun, or at least I had,  the kids had begun the ever popular whining and crying about everything. Which at that point you look around and say "Its been a lovely evening, and we are going to leave now." My family is used to this tactic by now. There comes a point in an outing where my kids have had enough and despite the "I don't want to leave" battle cry,  its time to jump ship and hope everyone makes it. So I decided, I needed to go. We had a great time, wish I had taken more pictures, but sometimes its best to put the camera down and enjoy the festivities.

The drive home was uneventful. I like uneventful!

And the whiniest (is that a word?) child of them all, Kiera, fell asleep three minutes into the ride home with mouth gaping, catching flies!!

Ahh, memories!
